Russian Wooden Cellphone

Russian Wooden phone with a bottle opener 1

If every country had it’s own type of cellphones, Russian ones could look like this. It could be made of wood - wood is cheap and is available everywhere in Russia, it has simple functions like call and bye, it would be made in Finland cause everyone in Russia knows good phones are made in Finland (like Nokia!) and one additional option is a must - a beer bottle opener from the backside of the phone - very handy!

Ellipse Wings

Russian Ellipse Wing Plane

In Belarus they use planes with ellipse wings. They say it has a few benefits comparing to the simple one or double winged planes, like the wing can be less in size, it’s more firm because the ellipse form is self sustaining, also there are now air vortexes by the sides of the wings which gives up to 30% increase in power compared to the traditional planes.

The Most Violent Video Games

The Most Violent Video Games

By Friday the 13th this past week, two of the goriest games to date arrived on store shelves: MadWorld and Resident Evil 5. An omen? No, it’s a bloody obvious sign that some video games are made for adults. There's a reason why the game industry has a self-regulated ratings system. Would you strap in your tween to watch Saw? Maybe traumatize a toddler by reading it to sleep with Stephen King’s “It?” Exactly. So don't go buying an "M-rated" game for the kids.

Well, that got us thinking back to the violent video games (and one that barely even spilled a drop) that have stirred up all sorts of controversy in the past. So, for your reading (dis)pleasure, we've assembled a murderer’s row of the 15 bloodiest games ever created. For the most part, this reads like a list of must-play games--if you have the stomach for them.

(To be honest, it was really difficult to narrow it down to the few titles here. Many games drip with…stuff…but we only had enough room and enough time to focus on some of the bigger ones. Hit the comment box below and share some other twisted gaming moments we may have missed.)

Our Gaming Grim Reapers: The GamePro gang helped narrow down the list. You can also find more gaming coverage in Darren's creepy Casual Friday column and "Monstrous" Matt Peckham's Game On blog

Google Voice, eBay Put Pressure on Skype

The future does not look very bright for Skype, after Google announced it will launch a potential competitor and eBay's CEO said that the online auction company had basically failed in its efforts to integrate the voice-over-IP service.

Wednesday, eBay CEO John Donahoe told analysts that the company is "done apologizing for Skype" and will focus eBay "where we can win." He indicated that eBay will cease trying to integrate the service into its existing online auction offerings and focus on running Skype as an independent business. eBay acquired Skype for $2.6 billion in 2005.

Hot on the heels of Donahoe's statements, Google announced its forthcoming Google Voice service, a revamp of GrandCentral, which it acquired back in 2007. The product was originally a personal phone management service that allowed users to have one central number that rang multiple phone numbers for a user, as well as a centralized voicemail box. Google's updates include low-cost Internet telephony services, SMS sending and retrieving, free outgoing calls to any U.S. number, and full voicemail services including voicemail transcripts.

While Google Voice is rolling out first to existing GrandCentral users before opening up to the masses, it's clear that eBay needs to do more than simply focus on Skype as a standalone company. Google has a huge pool of existing users and a history of rolling out applications that are more stable and feature-rich than Skype. eBay will need to make some serious investments in developing Skype's functionality to compete with the Google juggernaut -- or face selling the service for pennies on the dollar.

Hands-On with BlackBerry Niagara 9630

Aside from the BlackBerry Storm, the CDMA side of the equation is still lagging a little behind its GSM counterparts when it comes to offerings from Research in Motion. Fret not, though, because help is on the way very shortly.

On the GSM side, we've already seen the BlackBerry Bold 9000 and the BlackBerry Curve 8900. Now, we're getting a great look at the upcoming BlackBerry 9630 Niagara through the provided video below. By and large, this is some sort of Bold-Curve hybrid for the CDMA crowd, giving you a Bold-like keyboard and that great black-and-red color scheme.

Running on OS 4.7.1.10, the model shown in the video below appears to be an early beta, as the previewer says that he's been having some trouble with stability. The phone keeps rebooting itself for no real reason in particular, but we are offered a terrific glimpse into the physical features of the phone.

I know a certain someone in Lake County, California who will be very excited to watch the BlackBerry Niagara 960 hands-on video below. Looks like the Niagara could be ready for Sprint in Q3, so Verizon may get it around the same time.

Lenovo Pocket Yoga netbook is slick and small

As smartphones are getting more and more like laptops, laptops are getting smaller and smaller, like phones. Where will they meet? Maybe somewhere near the new Lenovo Pocket Yoga netbook, one of the tiniest little laptops I've ever seen.

There's not much info on this sexy little devil yet, but it looks to have a nice wide screen that can be flipped around and act as a touchscreen tablet, and it's very close to being small enough to fit in a pocket comfortably, but not quite. It looks slick and is sure to be expensive, as is the way with things moving towards the space between two types of device.
